As one of just a few sizeable pure eCommerce OP companies, Tony Ellison has captured the needs and wants of the market perfectly. Having founded Shoplet.com in 1994, ahead of the eCom boom of the late 1990s, his company was profitable before others had even thought of a web shop.

2007 was another banner year for Shoplet with tremendous growth figures, says Ellison. And as the internet becomes the medium of choice for customers, he considers his company to be very well positioned in capitalising on this trend.

Last year saw the successful launch of its ShopGreen initiative, a section on its website that offers over 8,000 eco-friendly products. In just a short time, Shoplet has become one of the largest providers of eco-friendly products in the OP sector.

Founder and CEO of Shoplet Tony Ellison is carefully steering his company forward and taking advantage of the rapidly growing eCommerce sector. Founded in 1994 and profitable since 1997, the company now sees triple-digit growth year on year. Such has been the extent of its growth that Shoplet has had to relocate its HQ to larger premises for the second time in only three years. Government contracts and a focus on the SMB market have helped boost Shoplet’s sales and Ellison has strong ambitions for the company. He said: “We experienced a phenomenal 2006 and we’re looking forward to 2007 as another banner year.”
Shoplet CEO Tony Ellison remains one of the few online success stories in the OP industry. In recent years, Ellison has boosted the company coffers by securing GSA contracts. This success continued over the last year with Shoplet picking up deals to supply the US federal government with jan/san and breakroom products and a two-year contract to supply the State of New York's Office of General Services. Shoplet also formed an advisory council in August 2005, including OP consultant Jeff Hewson and Ron Shaw of Pilot Pen. Prior to starting up Shoplet.com, Ellison worked at Goldman Sachs & Co in the private client services division
Tony Ellison, president/CEO of online OP retailer Shoplet.com, enjoyed a productive 2004 as his company celebrated its 10th anniversary. Last year, Ellison oversaw the firm’s full scale integration with Ariba’s eprocurement engine and benefited handsomely from the opening up of government OP supply contracts. Shoplet secured two five-year general services administration (GSA) contracts to supply OP and IT equipment. The firm has also set up a GSA private net allowing GSA buyers to search and acquire more than 48,000 products. Prior to starting up Shoplet.com, Ellison worked with Goldman Sachs & Co in the private client services division.
Tony Ellison is president/CEO of that rare beast - a pureplay e-marketplace that apparently makes money. Ellison founded Shoplet.com in 1994 and claims to have become profitable within three years. Shoplet.com, which offers more than 200,000 SKUs to some two million subscribers, continues to enjoy impressive growth. Among last year’s highlights were a three-year contract to supply the state of Virginia, and a partnership with CNET Networks to power online shopping engines. Prior to starting up Shoplet.com, Ellison worked with Goldman Sachs & Co in the private client services division.
